Graduate Studies

Graduate Degree programs in the Department of Theatre are designed to provide advanced work for persons preparing to teach or enter professional theatre. Currently, the department offers master of arts (MA) and master of fine arts (MFA) degree programs. A graduate degree in theatre from MSU can prepare you for a career as a professor or administrator at major colleges and universities throughout the United States or for a career in professional theatre. The MSU department of Theatre is affiliated with the Black Theatre Network, the Speech Communication Association, the Association for Theatre in Higher Education, the United States Institute for Theatre Technology, and the American Society for Theatre Research.

TA in THR 101 - Acting I

  • Appointment length:
    • 9 month FS & SS; 50% time.
  • Qualifications:
    • Candidate must have a Bachelor's degree including twenty-four credits in Theatre Studies (or professional equivalences).
    • Candidate must be enrolled in good standing in a graduate program in Theatre.
  • Job Expectations:
    • Assignments include but are not limited to lab supervision, undergraduate mentoring, grading, and independent teaching. Specific qualifications are dependent on the assignment.

TA in THR 211 - Production Design: Scenery and Lighting

  • Appointment length:
    • 9 month FS & SS; 50% time.
  • Qualifications:
    • Candidate must have a Bachelor's degree including twenty-four credits in Theatre Studies (or professional equivalences).
    • Candidate must be enrolled in good standing in a graduate program in Theatre.
  • Job Expectations:
    • Assignments include but are not limited to lab supervision, undergraduate mentoring, grading, and independent teaching. Specific qualifications are dependent on the assignment.

TA in THR 212 - Production Design: Costume, Props and Makeup

  • Appointment length:
    • 9 month FS & SS; 50% time.
  • Qualifications:

    • Candidate must be enrolled in good standing in a graduate program in Theatre.

TA in IAH 241D - Theater & Society in the West

  • Appointment length:
    • 9 month FS & SS; 50% time.
